I have forgotten my past…

Posted on by Laurits Fischer-Hansen Posted in Biking | Leave a comment

What now feels like long time ago, I was an avid mountainbiker. I spent most of my spare time riding, building, cleaning and falling off my mountainbikes. I loved all aspects of the culture: the cool guys, the bikes, being close to nature and off course I preferred the fat tires to the skinny of the road cyclists. But one day I came a bit too close to nature, first ending up in a ditch after falling off my bike, …

The season is coming to an end

There is no denying it: Fall is coming, even here in New Jersey. The leaves are turning yellow, some of them are already on the ground. Temperatures are rapidly falling into the low 70′s (or even 60′s!!!) and more and more thunderstorms are rolling in everyday. So the long days of riding in short sleeves and short bibs are also coming to an end. The obsession with getting the sharpest tan-line has changed into a desperate quest for maintaining just …

The marathon is off

I have been training for the Philly marathon since August and even though it has not been easy (hip problems) I was really looking forward to doing my first marathon ever on November 20th. However, last week my wife came up with a nice suggestion: Lets go on vacation in November, when the winter starts to set in here in New Jersey. And within 1 hour the vacation was booked and paid for. So now the only running I will …

Pace line etiquette

How long to stay in the front? I found this article about riding in a bunch the other day: I have done a fair share of group rides but I must admit that I am don’t have 20 years of experience riding in large groups, doing pacelines and rotating. Most of my group riding has just been easy rides with 1-3 others (or alone – Maybe I should get more cycling friends?). I do however recognize the pattern being described …

What to choose: New camera?

Posted on by Laurits Fischer-Hansen Posted in Biking | Leave a comment

As an avid bike rider and an avid photographer I often want to take photos on my training rides, but my only camera is a Nikon D300 with a rather large 17-55mm lens that doesn’t really fit well into my jersey back pocket. So I need to get me a new, smaller package that I can take along on my rides. A few criteria are: 1: Cheap ($100-200) 2: Small (Should be able to fit into a back pocket) 3: …

Nice new Rapha video

A new personal best

It’s not every day you go out and test yourself to see if you have improved your form. If you, like me don’t compete every weekend, you either just train because you can’t stop or you train because you have a race that might be 2-4-6 months out in the future. So even though you might progress you don’t notice it very often. For me, my race is due in November and I have been following my training plan since …

Rapha-mania on Ebay

Posted on by Laurits Fischer-Hansen Posted in Biking | Leave a comment

The last couple of weeks, I have been trying to get a hold of a new jersey and bib-shorts as the only cycling clothes I have in the closet right now are from the 2010/2011 Saxo Bank line-up. Admittedly I have quite a bit of it, but it would be nice to mix things up at bit once in a while so I don’t look too much like a taller, fat version of Andy Schleck all the time. Please note the …

Watching the World Championships?

Posted on by Laurits Fischer-Hansen Posted in Biking | 2 Comments

So, the cycling world championships starts in few days. For most of my life I have lived in Denmark, and for the last 4 I lived literally 2km from the course finish line. I have ridden the course and the final especially the final climb numerous times. In my younger days that last hill meant that I was at the start of my favorite mtb track at Geels Forrest and in the last couple of years it was the start …

The smaller things in life

Got new stuff for my bike today. Nothing major, but still something nice! 1: New headset cap and spacers: I was tired of looking at my very boring FSA topcap , so I decided to get myself one of the topcaps from a Swiss company called Parts of Passion. They do high-end parts and can stamp that famous “Made in Switzerland” label on their parts. While I was at it I also got myself a new set of spacers to …
