At least sort of.
After 3 days of tonsillitis and two days of antibiotics I feel well enough to go out for a short training ride on the bike.
It helps that it’s 25 degrees and sunny out there.
Let’s roll…

I like this video from the Danish team “Blue Water Cycling”. It reminds me of the few times I have been to Mallorca.
And I actually I spotted a place where I took a leek while waiting for the guys at Team Saxo Bank back in 2009
Sometimes I look at my days and wonder what I have done. But when I take a look at my training schedule I can see where at least some of my hours are spent.
There has been a nice bump in hours in March, where I started with 6 hours a week and ended in 10 hours pr week. Now it’s on to April for the first couple of races: A Sprint triathlon on April 22nd and a 1/2 marathon on April 29th.
My March training numbers so far (still have 1 training day left) are these:
The split is as follows (I know, I should spend som more time in the water…):

Compared to the numbers from March 2011, there is a nice increase:

Today I did my first century of the 2012 season. The weather prognosis looked really good with 25 degrees celsius and sun and no to little wind.
As a friend of my wife’s were going shopping close to the Jersey Shore, I decided to basically drop her off at the mall, go out to the coast and ride north until I reached the northen point of the shore, called Sandy Hook.
Unfortunately the coastline wasn’t aware that the weather promised sun and 25 degrees. Instead it had decided on a thick fog and what felt like 15-17 degrees. Naive as I was, I expected the sun to break through the fog at any minute but after 3 1/2 hours riding back and forth on the coastline the sun still hadn’t penetrated the thick fog.
Luckily I had brough my armwarmers and gillet for extra protection, believing that they only would be necessary for the first 30 min…
After 90k I rode back into the country side and after 200m the fog lifted and a clear bright sun showed itself for the first time. After 10 min I had to get rid of armwarmers, gillet and put my sunglasses back on.
What do you know…

Got new Tri shoes the other day – Specialized Trivent Expert! And with it also a little shim as my right leg apparently is a litte shorter than my left leg.

Now I just got to wait until my bike is done (hopefully Tuesday) to go on my first ride.
I wonder: Can I go training on a TT bike without Speedsuit, TT helmet and compression socks…hmmm. Or should I just go all in like Lance in his younger days.:

So, after the mailman has been delivering around 8 packages in the last two days, my BMC Team Machine is getting closer to being finished.
The smaller parts like brakes, derailleurs and shifters (all from SRAM’s budget group Rival) are on the bike.
I originally also bought a Rival Crankset for the build, but as the wife had a nicer Shimano Dura-Ace on her bike, I swapped them around and saved 150 grams (sorry, Love). Then I will have to live with the complaints from the fashion police for the brand-confusion until I splash for a Red Crankset.
The entire cockpit is on (except for the brake levers), but have not been adjusted as I will be going to my local bike store Knapps Cyclery for a Retul fit next week.
The 3T aerobar that I ordered from Wiggle came and I must admit that I am not to happy about the shape of the “Vandevelde” extensions that came with it. From a visual perspective I would rather have gone with a shallower s-bend, but I will see how my fitting goes before splahing out money for new extensions.

For now all that I can do is wait for my brake levers that hopefully arrive today. Then it is off to the bike store for the final tocuhes and the fitting…
NOTE: I know the saddle look tilted, but it is still not tightened to the seatpost.

Oh – and they did this very cool video to promote themselves:
My new frame is in. It’s a 2011 BMC Timemachine TT02 that I got on sale at Competitive Cyclist.
And just in time for spring. Now I just need to get the parts. Off to Ebay
It will most likely be build with SRAM rival parts, 3T Mistral Aerobar, Prolog Saddle and my old trusty Zipp 404s for now.
I’ll post more photos as the parts are put on.

THis is a pretty cool video about an even cooler concept: The inverted bike shop.
718 Cyclery in Brooklyn NY took the normal process of bike selling, discarded it and came up with the idea of “Collaborative Builds”
You can visit the bike shop here: www.718c.com

So, here they are. The hydraulic rim and disc brakes from SRAM. So far only these photos have surfaced, so nothing yet on weight or price.
They do look really nice, but the question of course is, if they actually work in a better fashion that today’s regular rim brakes. Only time will tell..
Well, nothing more to do than wait until summer 2012
